With aspirations of being the first Michelin-starred venue in Nairobi, Hemingways is bringing new vigour to the dining scene in Kenya. Designed by Barry Tonks, a chef of high London renown whose career is decorated with Michelin star and AA rosettes, the menus are contemporary European in style, characterised by a focus on retro-classics with an ultra-modern twist.
The Brasserie serves the best steaks in Kenya — specially fed beef grilled on an imported charcoal oven called a Josper; the restaurant pioneers cooking technology never before used in Kenya — “a la plancha” and sous-vide techniques; and the hotel has its own patisserie decorated with hand-crafted cakes and Viennoisseries.
There are a variety of eating experiences to try out here - European brunches, breakfasts of American waffles made from a special NY Lower East Side recipe, champagne afternoon teas, the chef’s table with its tasting menu and our sommelier’s selection of wines, or good old Sunday roast with Yorkshire pud.
